Workers at Workinman Interactive are unionizing with the backing of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE). This is the first union dedicated specifically to video game workers under IATSE in the US. Following a supermajority of workers signing cards indicating their collective desire to join together, IATSE filed a petition for representation election with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). They will vote for their union in a hybrid election, with in-person voting being held on September 12th, and a mail-in ballot period ending on September 26th. The votes will be counted on September 27th.
